Hi and welcome to my blog.
I’ll start with a quick post about who I am and why I am doing this.
My name is Simon and I’m from Melbourne, Australia. I like going out with friends, reading, cooking, Australian football, TV and movies. I also work as a Chartered Accountant specialising in tax. That is what this blog will be about.
I’m currently studying for a Masters of Applied Taxation at the University of New South Wales (via correspondence). The main reason I am writing this blog is to help me with my studies. A good way to revise is to try to try to explain what you are learning to someone else. Since I am studying tax and don’t want to scare away all my friends I can’t really do that in the real world. That brings me to WordPress where I can write and pretend that someone out there is listening.
If by some miracle somebody does stumble upon this blog I hope that it helps them understand a bit more about how tax in Australia works, what their accountant is going on about and even how they may save some money.
My current subject is ‘Principles of Australian International Taxation’ so at first most of my posts will be about things like Australian residents earning foreign income and foreign residents earning Australian income. If you are someone who is considering moving to Australia or an Australian who is considering moving overseas these posts may be useful to you.

P.P.S. All advice in this blog is of a general nature. I’ve done my best to make sure it is accurate but I give no guarantees. Make sure you seek professional advice that is specific to your situation.
P.P.S If you’d like to use something that I have written please make sure you give me credit. This is especially important for academic work, though you should probably find someone more authoritative than me anyway.
